Academy of Library Science and Documentation (ALSD) is a Professional Organisation / Association of Library & Information Science Professionals established in the year 1965. It is Recognized by the Govt. of Andhra Pradesh – G.O.Ms.No.1536 and Registered with Reg. No. 13/1966.
Genesis :
After formation of Andhra Pradesh State in the Year 1956, Hyderabad city witnessed remarkable growth and development of Educational Institutions, R & D Institutions, Industries, Scientific Laboratories and Defence Laboratories. As consequence to this growth and development a number of academic and special libraries, documentation centres and information centres have been managed by a number of specialist Librarians and Documentalists. Their number has been increased gradually and some of the senior professionals felt the need for a professional association so as to come together and exchange professional ideas and contribute to the development of the profession and professionalism. Thus Academy of Library Science and Documentation (ALSD) cam into being on the auspicious day of Ugadi, the Telugu New Year day on April 2, 1965 and was inaugurated by M.R. Appa Rao, Minister for Cultural Affairs, Govt. of AP at the State Central Library (SCL), Hyderabad. The Academy has the fortune of receiving blessings from the Father of Library Science in India Dr.S.R. Ranganathan and eminent Librarian B.S. Kesavan.

- To make available specialist services as consultants or otherwise to organisations and Individuals.,
- To cooperative with other organisations having similar aims and objectives.,
- To Establish a Library for the Academy., and
- To perform such other functions as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the objectives of the Academy.
